INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF EESA ‘06

The inauguration ceremony of EESA’06 was held on 16th February 2006 in the VJTI Auditorium.

The Chief Guest was Dr G R Nagabhushana, ex-Chairperson, presently Professor-Emeritus, High Voltage Department, IISc, Bangalore. He delivered a lecture on Impact of lightning on aircrafts. He is so highly regarded in this field, that the seminar was attended by dignitaries and scientists from BARC and other institutions. Yet, at the same time, the lecture was so well delivered, that even the students could relate to it. In simple words, he explained the cause of the problem, its significance today, and the methods to protect aircraft from lightning. We were indeed honoured to have him with us.

The Guest of Honour at this function was Mr. A M Sahni, ex-Executive Director, Tata Power. Mr Sahni is an alumnus of VJTI (Batch of ’58). He shared his reminiscences about VJTI as he knew it. In his address, he stressed on energy conservation as the need of the hour.
One commendable achievement was the inauguration of the new EESA website. This website has been envisaged as a means of interaction for members of EESA. It will have records of previous question papers, details of forth coming activities, interesting articles dealing with new developments in this field, etc, thus striking a balance between the academics on the one hand, and co-curricular activities on the other.

Screening of an audio-visual introduction to EESA was one of the attractions of the function. A felicitation ceremony was also held, where the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour felicitated the meritorious students of the department.
